Detailed information

Product detailed description

Intense ruby red color with purple highlights. The aroma is strong with notes of cherry, licorice and cocoa. The taste is full, persistent, harmonious. Syrah is grown on 8ha vineyards in the Grisi area, Monreale at an altitude of 480 m.a.s.l. , where the planting density is 4500 bushes/ha. The yield is lower, 70q/ha. The subsoil is sandy-clay with large deposits of dead parts.  The selected grapes are fermented at a controlled temperature of 25-27°C, followed by maceration for 15 days and then malolactic fermentation in a stainless steel tank. This is followed by maturation in a barrique barrel (30%), and the rest of the wine is left to mature in a stainless steel tank for 6 months. Subsequently, 120 days in the bottle.

Syrah or also Shiraz is  a red variety that comes mainly from the northern part of the valley  Rhôna  in France, from where it spread to warm regions all over the world. According to research from 2014, it is the sixth most cultivated variety. Prominent producers are Australia, New Zealand, USA, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Greece.  The name Shiraz, which, like the French Syrah, refers to the city Shíráz, which was one of the wine-growing centers in ancient times. However, the legend that this variety originates from ancient Persia is not based on truth: a DNA analysis carried out in 1999 proved that Syrah originated in south-eastern France by crossing local varieties. "Dureza" #808080;">Syrah has medium-sized and relatively compact cylindrical grapes, the berries are black-blue in color, smaller, with a firm skin. It is a mid-late ripening variety, but it can hardly tolerate cold and rainy weather. The wine has a deep dark color and an intense aroma reminiscent of violets. Due to its robust taste and higher alcohol content, it is recommended for longer storage. It is viscous, rich in tannins and tannins, with a long aftertaste. It tastes of fruit (currants, blueberries, blackberries) with notes reminiscent of terroir green pepper, mint or liquorice. Served at a temperature of 18 °C, recommended with beef or game

The Di Lorenzo family, of English origin, arrived in Sicily under King Roger's regiment when Silvestre Di Lorenzo, Viscount of Antony in the Duchy of Nottuberland, settled in the Val di Noto territory. At the end of the 16th century, part of the family moved to Gibellina. Two centuries later, in 1803, Nicola Di Lorenzo was awarded the title of Marquis of Castelluccio, based on a concession by King Ferdinand IV. In 1867, a few years after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, the archpriest Santi Di Lorenzo, a great lover of agriculture, bought the former Feudo Disisa and bequeathed it to his nephew Nicolò Di Lorenzo, former mayor of Ghibellina and deputy of the Kingdom of Italy for two terms from 1904 to 1909. The venerable Nicolò Di Lorenzo married Anna Emanuele di Villabianca, the niece of a famous scholar of Sicilian history and of culture, which was described in great detail in his numerous works.

In the 1930s, his son Mario Di Lorenzo,
after graduating in agriculture from the University of Portica, began to devote himself full-time to the family estate and expanded the cultivation of vines to olive trees. He immediately decided to plant 150 hectares of vineyards and 70 hectares of olive groves and began the construction of the first cellar intended for the production of blended wine. The new structure was completed in 1935, when the first harvest saw the light of day for the sale of cask wine intended for the markets of northern Italy and France. The society thus records its first fundamental transformation, which radically changes the face of the surroundings, both from an agricultural and an economic-social point of view. In 1980, the old winery was closed and the family began supplying grapes to cooperative wineries in the area.
