Tenute Falezza

How we started
Mr. Luigi Falezza, born in 1927, went to the fields at the age of 6 with his brothers and sisters to help his parents with the agricultural work. The fields consisted of plots of land with vineyards, wheat and polenta. In the 1940s, he worked with his family as a farmer in the villa "Bacco d'Oro". The villa belonged to the Schiavoni Counts and was located in the Mezzane Valley, it was only part of the 800/900 lands of this great empire. In the busiest periods, Luigi was assisted by 10/12 other workers and their families; There was a great sense of solidarity and help among them. A vineyard does not grow by itself, but must be planted, cultivated, watered and weeded while it is small. In short, you have to take care of it as if it were a child."The grapes were harvested using a "zerle", which were two baskets placed on the shoulders at the end of a pole; Then the grapes were placed in a "Brentoni". Finally, it was sold to merchants and the unsold part remained in the cellar of the property, where the wine was made to mature in wooden barrels. After the death of the Counts Schiavoni di Mezzane, the property was sold.
Luigi then moved to San Felice and in 1974 bought the current landscape, which since 2001 has expanded with the purchase of land in the Marcellise area (a hilly area near Verona) and Mezzane di Sotto (in the province of Verona). It was here that he passed on ancient varieties and the characteristics of some grape varieties, such as Corvina and Corvinone, using the Veronese system of training vines on pergolas.
In winter, wooden stakes were planted to support the "rengaia" vines, which were a kind of large sickle. In the spring the vines were pruned and in October the harvest began. The vines were watered using water containers carried on the shoulders. The philosophy of the Falezza family is a company that is constantly improving and that knows how to satisfy even the most demanding customers. " We make our creations as we have in the past. Our work, which has led us to obtain important awards of which we are proud, includes the challenge of maintaining high value in a completely changed market.
