Bertagnolli
The origins of the Bertagnolli distillery, recipient of numerous awards for product quality, date back to 1870. That year, Giulia Kreutzenberg, owner of one of the largest businesses in the northern Italian region of Piana Rotaliana, married Edouard Bertagnolli, heir to an established pharmaceutical company. Thanks to the use of stills, known in pharmaceutical practice as alembics, and the technique of the so-called bain-marie, originally used by Renaissance alchemists who placed distilled substances into water-filled containers in furnaces to prevent direct contact with fire, it became possible to create spirits of unsurpassed quality, which immediately became highly popular. Official recognition followed in 1886, when the Habsburg court in Vienna awarded the title of Imperial and Royal Court Supplier. The Bertagnolli distillery is located in the region known as Piana Rotaliana, which Goethe once referred to as "the most beautiful vineyard garden in Europe". This mountain-sheltered area has a continental climate with cold winters, warm summers, and strong day-night temperature shifts—ideal for grape ripening. The alluvial soils, shaped by past floods from the Adige and Noce rivers, also contribute positively to optimal grape development. Over 150 years, with new ideas and investments, we have refined our Trentino spirits and grappas with the goal of achieving perfection, always with unwavering courage and energetic persistence.
