Feudo Disisa
The Di Lorenzo family, of English origin, arrived in Sicily during the reign of King Roger, when Silvestre Di Lorenzo, Viscount of Antony in the Duchy of Nottuber, settled in the Val di Noto area. At the end of 1600, part of the family moved to Gibellina. Two centuries later, in 1803, Nicola Di Lorenzo obtained the title of Marquis of Castelluccio by concession from King Ferdinand IV. In 1867, just a few years after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, Archpriest Santi Di Lorenzo, a great lover of agriculture, purchased the former fief of Disisa and bequeathed it to his nephew Nicolò Di Lorenzo, former mayor of Gibellina and member of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Italy for two terms from 1904 to 1909. The venerable Nicolò Di Lorenzo married Anna Emanuele di Villabianca, niece of a famous scholar of Sicilian history and culture, which he described in detail in his numerous works.
In the 1830s, his son Mario Di Lorenzo, after graduating in agriculture at the University of Portici, began to devote himself full-time to the family estate and expanded the cultivation of vines and olive trees. He decided almost immediately to plant 150 hectares of vineyards and 70 hectares of olive groves and began construction of the first cellar for the production of blended wine. The new structure was completed in 1935, the year in which the first harvest was carried out for the purpose of launching the bulk wine destined for the market.
The new structure was completed in 1935, the year in which the first harvest for the sale of barrel wine destined for the markets of northern Italy and France was completed. The company thus experiences its first major transformation, radically changing the face of the surrounding area, both from an agricultural and an economic-social point of view. In 1980, the old winery was closed and the family began to supply grapes to cooperative wineries in the area.
In 1982, in collaboration with the Regional Institute for Vine and Wine, the first experimental vineyard was planted: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah vines were planted. 1987 marks a milestone for the Di Lorenzo family, which becomes the first registered company to plant Chardonnay vineyards in Sicily. In 1998, the Feudo Disisa brand was born to market the oil produced from the olive harvest that took place in November 1997. In 2004, the new winery was inaugurated, equipped with the most modern technologies on the market: the first production of Feudo Disisa wines debuted on the market.
Today, the company is led by Renato Di Lorenzo, with the support of his wife Maria Paola and their two children Laura and Mario, who are personally involved in the company and commercial activities. Our family, now in its fifth generation, has always managed each business directly with innovative and cutting-edge capabilities.
