Capanne Ricci
In Sant'Angelo in Colle, in the municipality of Montalcino, there is one of the oldest farms in the Brunello area: the Tenimenti Ricci farm. The siblings Ida and Ferruccio Ricci passionately continue a family tradition deeply linked to the soil, the rhythm of the seasons and the history of Montalcino. Here, ancient knowledge is combined with the modern and innovative management of Ida and Ferruccio, who have been running the company with passion since the 1990s, respecting the rules of Montalcino to offer customers a product of the highest quality.
The Ricci family has been making wine on the Sant'Angelo in Colle farm for many years. Ida and Ferruccio grew up here, taking over from their parents and continuing a two-hundred-year tradition. The passion with which they care for the vineyards and the production of wine is passed down from generation to generation: yesterday as today, the love of the land is the basis of the company's mission, a love that is transformed into wine. Twenty hectares of vineyards, mainly Sangiovese, spread out on the hillsides of the medieval village of Sant'Angelo in Colle and further downstream on the first spurs of the Orcia River. A privileged location, a little corner of paradise where the soil and climate give the vines characteristics that are known all over the world. In addition to Sangiovese, the vineyard also grows Trebbiano and Syrah.
Ida and Ferruccio manage the company with one eye on the past and the other on the future. A perfect balance between tradition and innovation. Traces of the farm's history can be found in the estate's tasting room, where ancient winemaking equipment used by the Ricci family is on display. The space is located inside the company center of the Il Casello farm: there is also a cellar, recently renovated and equipped with the latest technologies to maintain the right temperature in the rooms for the winemaking processes and the aging in Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a period of aging in the bottle.
Those who arrive in Sant'Angelo in Colle cannot fail to notice the beautiful roses at the head of the rows of vines of the Tenimenti Ricci company. These flowers are an indelible memory of the past that the family does not want to give up. The roses were used as guardians: if they got sick, the vines soon had problems too. A natural method to keep the rows under control and intervene before it was too late. Rose planting is now a legacy of the past: thanks to modern techniques, it is no longer necessary to have a spy plant in the crops, but these rose gardens speak of a past with which the Ricci family is still associated today, and that is why they have been preserved.
