Borgo Antico
Since 1973 Borgo Antico breathes the magical atmosphere of its hills
From Vinitaly to Gambero Rosso, Borgo Antico has won prestigious national awards with wines with a delicate aroma and the decisive, imprint of the territory, the Conegliano hills, formed by moraine soil rich in calcium, ideal for excellent production. A family business since 1973, today, as then, it produces traditional wines with the passion and craftsmanship of our ancestors.
The adventure begins when Vito Marchesin decides to start producing artisanal wines with the first hectares. He involves the whole family, especially his son Leonardo, who has loved accompanying him to the vineyard and breathing its atmosphere since childhood and who, over the years, has learned all the secrets of his father's fascinating profession. Leonardo then became an oenologist and in 1995 took over the reins of the company, which today covers 30 hectares and produces 160,000 bottles per year. In the vinification of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene, cryomaceration was introduced, which allows the use of sulfur dioxide to be avoided and the primary essences to be extracted from the grape skins to obtain a wine that is rich on the palate and pleasantly aromatic. Filtration is not carried out, to ensure that the grape's own yeasts transmit all the aromas while giving the wine density. The use of sulfites is reserved only at the end of the sparkling wine process - and in any case in small quantities - to preserve the wine in the bottle: this means that the amount of sulfur dioxide is sometimes even lower than in organic wines. The company never forgets the importance of history and its origins, constantly evolving and growing, characteristics that are reflected both in the appearance of the model. Over the years, the original cellars have been restyling, allowing the company to expand. The original building from 1935, although renovated, continues to transmit the warmth of our family by recalling the historicity of the very name Borgo Antico. Our company has been collaborating since 2022 on the restoration of the church of S. Michele from 1400, located right on the site of the company's headquarters. A topic that is very close to our family is sustainability. In fact, we believe that the commitment to environmental protection is essential, for this reason we use renewable energies and use grapes exclusively from our own production and our suppliers, with whom our sincere friendships and working relationships have been rooted over time. The commitment and quality of the final product are evidenced at a national level by numerous reviews that have appeared in trade magazines, awards and prizes such as those already mentioned from Vinitaly and Gambero Rosso: "We are present in the Gambero Rosso guide as the Italian Spumante with the best price-quality ratio. In addition, the special sparkling wine forum at the Città del Vino 2021 international wine competition awarded the silver medal to Prosecco Superiore DOCG 2020 Conegliano-Valdobbiadene, Prosecco Rosé 2020 Prosecco DOC and Rive di Ogliano 2019 Conegliano- Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.
ECOLOGICAL EFFICIENCY" From wine to bottle with respect for the most original flavors. It is a winery that therefore produces wine exclusively from grapes of its own production and from its own suppliers, who are carefully selected and followed in the vineyard. The wines are produced using techniques that respect the grapes without attacking them. The attention already begins with the plant with a sensible biological approach. All the vineyards, which are mostly located in the surrounding area or in neighboring municipalities, are cultivated with modern techniques that draw on the knowledge and wisdom of old winemakers, respecting the grapes without attacking them: the decision not to use herbicides and to minimize the use of chemical products, as well as the harvest carried out exclusively by hand by collecting in boxes, certainly add value and specificity to our productions. The company is holder of the SQNPI (National Quality System for Integrated Production) certificate".
The Glera variety is today the protagonist of production, but Borgo Antico has never abandoned this tradition and continues to cultivate the original vineyards that are part of the history of the area, from Marzemina to Verdiso, from Merlot to Cabernet, from which significant peculiarities are obtained.
